Ask us

So I figure we might as well have somewhere to ask questions in comment form without worrying about going off topic or having to go through the hassle of emailing us.

Go ahead and ask “when’s chapter [x] of [x] coming out.” I would suggest looking at our main post for info first, but feel free to ask whatever. I can’t promise we’ll answer everything because sometimes we don’t have exact answers, but we’ll get as much info as we got to you. Don’t worry too much about the subject; this is meant to be an off topic alternative.

  1. Just wondering if you guys do batches at all, or if it’s strictly chapter by chapter?

    1. We basically release each chapter as we finish it. Sometimes, when we are going fast, our editors (we have two) take three chapters and work on two of them individually and then converge on the third chapter, ergo three basically come out on the same time. Sometimes they just each do one chapter and we end up with two at basically the same time. Either way, generally all the work for those type of releases are done when we want something out fast and so is done within the same day (within a few hours of each other as a matter of fact).

Generally we don’t think it’s good to withhold work unless you’re releasing at a ridiculous rate (something like 1 chapter every day or two) or working on a series that’s complete. Our goal with any given series is generally this:
-If it’s an ongoing series, then get it up-to-date as quickly as possible, id est a release every few days (less than a week at least).
-If it’s a completed series, then maintain a regular release schedule around a week.
-If it’s an up-to-date ongoing series, then release the latest chapter 1-2 days after the raws are obtained.

That layout is idealized and it doesn’t always work like that, but that’s what we aim for, particularly when there’s a lot of fans waiting. There can certainly be derivations when there are unusual circumstances, e.g. chapter lengths being variable (i.e. much longer than average).

(Obviously, we’re terrible with DDC, but the style we are doing it in is pretty special… but not so much that it should take as long as it does, so I’d really like to say sorry to all the fans.)

Also, I should note that these standards only apply to series we are ‘serious’ about. A project being serious is more tangibly defined by what it’s not for us; a non serious project is one we are generally willing to hand over to another group or collaborate with another group to do. This follows with an ideal we hold; ownership doesn’t really exist, though should be respected out of courtesy in general, but should not be respected when a series is in great need of aid.

(edit: cleaned it up a bit and made some points clearer)

  2. I’d like to know more about uddup and vagabond. Are these series release dates really so sparse or are you just lazy…? Those are mine favorite series and it sucks ass to read ‘em when you have almost forget what has happened in last chapter… However, quality of these series are great!

    1. (Edit: Nihil’s response below is much more concise)

Well, the issue of irregularity of Vagabond and UDDUP stems from a few sources, but let me assure you that it’s nothing on our end.

First off is the fact that we have to wait for the Japanese raws to show up on the internet. This can happen within the day of or even before the Japanese release, but it can also take weeks after the release. Raws being released is highly irregular at times; the reason for such is unclear. A good example is with Vagabond these last several chapters; the raws for two chapters just didn’t show up and then the chapter after them did, id est a gap. there wasn’t much we could do but do the chapters we did have (if you read on a site like OneManga it would have appeared to have been released all at once, but really they just don’t put chapters up past a gap). Waiting and hoping is about all we can do. (also, rest assured that we are looking for the raws; we watch raw sites and Japanese P2P networks for all the latest chapters).

Second, and this applies mainly only to Vagabond, is that some series’ authors take extended and common breaks. Vagabond tend to take them very often and they can last up to a few months at times (though given the quality of Vagabond, I can’t blame him too much). Other series are more regular, but with a longer release cycle than weekly. For example, Until Death Do Us Part is released every two weeks.

Obviously there’s nothing we can do if the author/mangaka hasn’t written/drawn the chapter or if we don’t have the raws yet, but once we do, they are top priority. We generally get Vagabond or UDDUP out within a few days and fairly often just hours after we get the raws.

Sorry that there is a lot of time between each chapter, but unfortunately we literally can’t really do anything about it for UDDUP or Vagabond.

    2. In fewer words, Vagabond is released weekly but takes breaks all the time. UDDUP is released every two weeks. And for both series, we’ve run into issues where the raw providers — the people who scan the magazines and upload them — are unreliable, meaning that there’s sometimes an unavoidable delay between when the series actually come out and when we’re able to scan them.

On our part, though, once we get the raws, we typically have a 1-2 day turnaround. We’re certainly not lazy. If you read our “What we’re doing now” post, which is always on the front page of our blog, we post the status of all of our series there (including what series are on breaks, etc).

  3. Hi, just wondering if by chance the Nihil, means Nikhel. Why? Well cause i know 2 brothers with that name.

    1. I don’t know of any connections between the two. Our name is in latin, and Nihil specifically mean “nothing”. I suppose the name could be derived from latin, though it seems a bit strange for it to be derived from nihil. Anyways, you can find more info on our name here:
      http://nihilsinenefas.wordpress.com/with-regard-to-the-meaning-of-our-name-nihil-sine-nefas-and-our-symbol-the-inverted-cross/

  4. Hi, you probably were already asked that, but how come you didn’t release Vagabond 292?

    1. The raws (scans in Japanese) simply never showed up, so we have nothing to work with. Sometimes out of many, one chapter won’t get scanned for what seems like completely arbitrary reasons. There’s not much we can do but wait for the issue to resolve itself, i.e. wait for someone to decide to scan it.

We’re expecting that the next volume will get scanned and it should contain chapter 292, so that’s looking like the most probable solution. Unfortunately, it’s unclear exactly when it will get scanned. We did, however, get the raws for chapter 293 to 296, so we’ll be working on those in the meantime.

  5. I just found you guys after discovering the glory that is UDDUP. I love you guys for your scanlations. =)
Just out of curiosity, do you pick up requests for certain series or are you too busy with the releases you are doing now?

    1. Well, we generally choose what we do independently, and what we do tends to be very specific and very arbitrary. You could suggest something and it might by chance catch our interest –having raws already scanned is almost a prerequisite– but don’t get your hopes up. The chances that a given series would catches our interest and that we would take it up are very slim. Besides that, we’re not looking for anymore projects to do right now or in the foreseeable future. In other words, it’s almost certainly no right now, but you can always say something; we’re more than happy to check it out anyways.

Edit: Also, I should note that oneshot, while still not all that likely, have a significantly better chance to get scanlated by us, especially if we’ve already scanlated another work with the same author (we tend to keep up on our favorite authors’ works though).

  6. Bit of a weird comment, but thought I’d say it anyway.
In the latest chapter of Until death (100) the Aegis arm this guy was given was a right arm, while the guy is missing his left. I wonder if that was on purpose to screw with him?

    1. That’s a novel take. I hadn’t really noticed which arm he had cut off and which arm the artificial one was. Genie’s tone was generally mocking, so I guess it’s feasible. There was nothing on the Japanese side that stuck out as indicating one interpretation or the other, so it’s speculation either way.

  7. Can you possibly send me raws for series you guys are translating, if you guys still have them?

    1. What raws are you looking for specifically? We’d rather not just do a blanket upload of everything we have due to obvious time and bandwidth implications, needless to say pointless redundancy.

That aside, you should keep a few things in mind. First off, we sometimes have distribution restrictions imposed by whoever provided us with the raws. Second, we don’t always keep raws archived, so we might not have them ourselves. Third, we probably won’t upload raws for a chapter we haven’t completed yet. Any of these might restrict us from getting the raws out, but we’ll try.

Also, if you wouldn’t mind putting our curiosity to rest, what exactly do you intend to use these raws for?

      1. I heard you guys got raw for chapter 5 of Dr.Rurru. Also, are you guys planning to get more chapters of Dr.Rurru, like chapter 7 and 8?

Also for your question, I have absolutely no plans for any distribution nor scanlation/translation. I just wanted to read them.

        1. We should be getting 7 and 8 at some point. I can’t say when though.

  8. Do you know when chapter 5 of Dr.Rurru going to release?

    1. We have a rough translation done, but it might still be a while since there’s still a good deal of cleaning to do and proofing often ends up being time consuming. Besides that, UDDUP 101 is currently our primary focus. Our best estimate right now would be the coming weekend.

  9. Let me start with a “Thank you” for all of your release, especially UDDUP and Ruuru.

Now, what do you feel about a short “thank you” comment in release entries? Like it, hate it, or don’t care? I usually don’t have much else to say, but I am willing to show my appriciation. However, some groups/people don’t like it, so I want to ask just to be sure.

    1. We’re grateful to anyone who takes the time to visit our site and post a message, even if it’s just the word “thanks” =)

  10. Who rights the blurbs at the end of the Until Death Do Us Part chapters? Just wondering because I wanted to let you know that I actually look forward to the credit page of each chapter because I know its going to be great :D

    1. Thanks, it’s always nice to hear. Anyways, we all work on it together, but I would say greater credit goes to Nihil who tends to control the exact verbiage in the end.

  11. Thanks a lot for UDDUP!! It’s one of my favorites. The end credits always crack me up.

  12. WOOOO THANKS TO THE TEAM FOR UDDUP!!!!!

    You guys rock~

  13. So, is it true that NSN is so awesome they can single handedly defeat Chuck Norris? 8D -Random fun time question-

    1. It’s hard to call really. This is fact: Chuck Norris does not hunt because the word hunting implies the possibility of failure; Chuck Norris goes killing. This is also true: a cobra once bit Chuck Norris’ leg; after five days of excruciating pain, the cobra died.

Now that said, one of our more eccentric hobbies is the hunting of rare beasts. Ever see the super man movie where super man reverses time by flying around the world? Imagine that and then the bare handed strangling of a Tyrannosaurus Rex. We’re not saying that’s what we do, but we sure as hell ain’t not saying that. Also, no comment about the magnificent Jurassic trophies that adorn our den walls.

Not sure if any of that helps, but If worse came to worse and we actually had to fight Norris, I can tell you that we’d end up using three hands. You know, because wouldn’t want to leave anyone out.

      1. I guess one can only hope that such a thing never occurs. ;D

  14. Holy shit, the TPC chart-thing that you guys added to the end of UDDUP 105 was morbidly hilarious. I feel kinda bad for laughing.

    Anyway, thanks for the update!

    1. Thank god! I thought we were going to be the only people going to hell for that. I can rest easier knowing that we’ll have some company.

  15. Should start by saying thank you for the work on UDDUP as it is one of my favourites series, what I wanted to ask is that with the death of the large reader sites are you planning to scanslate the decent few volumes of UDDUP that were done before you guys took over? I know it’s a lot to ask but with the quality of your scans and translation the idea of the whole series to this point being made available by you is very appealing to a leecher like me…

    1. Unfortunately, I can tell you that right that now we don’t have the time to do that. I don’t know when we’ll have it or if that’s what we’ll use it for when we do. I like the idea a lot, but it’d take a good deal of work, being as we would probably have to redo everything from scratch –I know I wouldn’t just give up my translations to a team that would, in effect, erase my team from the scanlation history of a given series.

Now, us redoing the first chapters isn’t necessarily the only solution to getting everything in one package. I do believe there are still some database sites up that have all the UDDUP releases there. Besides that, there might be torrents floating around out there with most of the chapters included. Google might lead you to something like this.

Someone might consider, after getting their hands on all the chapters, making a torrent themselves for others. I don’t see any reason why, with the proper credit notes before the link, we couldn’t link to it from here (pending that the other groups don’t have some sort of release restriction which I don’t know of).

  16. I just wanted to thank you guy (or girls) for your scanlations of UDDUP. I love it. But most of all keep up with the comments after each chapter. I’m pissing my pants every time.

P.S. Sorry if my english is weird, it’s not my mothertongue.
    Alexx from Montréal. Thanks again.

  17. Hey, are you guys still going to translate stuff with most of the online places being nuked? And to coalition and everything?

I need my UDDUP, man. D:

    1. Well, the coalition hasn’t really shown any signs of going after individual scanlators. And besides that, it’s probably too large an endeavor to send take-downs to every scanlator, even for coalition. That being the case, there shouldn’t be any reason why they’d stop up.

      1. Okay goood. I’d hate to not have UDDUP, but I’d totally hate for like you guys to get in trouble or something.

But man, Viz media started that whole mess. (If I understood it right.) They’ve had it out for scanlating for years. I never have liked them. I personally think Dark Horse should take over the manga distribution in the States.

        1. A take-down wouldn’t get us in “trouble” as much as make us stop and remove links –which would suck too, yes. It’s not like we’d go to court or anything though… unless we refused to comply… which we won’t. If worse comes to worse, you might have to just settle for text translations from mangahelpers.

Also, it’s not like Viz is the be all end all of manga localization. As matter of fact, if any company localizes UDDUP, I’d think it’d be Dark Horse (they localized DoubleS’ other work if I remember correctly).

But anyways, there’s only so much you can blame Viz; allowing direct and, more to the point, convenient competition is bad business. I think most people in the scanlation community are in agreement that the solution is to completely revamp their business model. But let’s be honest here, that’s no easy feat and a high risk endeavor. Basically all entertainment industries are struggling to adapt to business in the internet age. Until manga localizers do adapt –which may very well include scanlations– it’s neither surprising nor unreasonable to see action like this.

          1. Yeah, I understand why they’re doing it an all, it just pisses me off because they don’t ask us (scanlators, tranlators, readers) why we view it online and just assume that we’re all greedy and lazy. Im not saying ask EVERYONE that participates in the whole online manga thing, but at least get a general idea instead of branding us all as criminals.

I read online manga because most of the titles I read online (UDDUP, Wolf Guy to name some) aren’t even being printed in my language. Wolf Guy probably never will be since the States seem to hate stuff that graphic. :| And even if they are in my language, I can’t find them to buy in store unless I feel like going to a big city, and I’m not driving four hours for a comic book, yanno?

Or else they censor the shit out of it. (CMX’s Tenjou Tenge, anyone?)

I just wish publishers would care more about the consumer and less about the money. :|

  18. Previously I have allways read your scans on onemanga.com. Unfortunately on this site a line that sais:”We can also be found here…

    …”
is hard to find. I know it sounds like I’m a bit lazy but, I allways think of it as very confenient to be able to read scans online. This saves me the space on my harddrive for downloading.

    Thanks in advance.

P.S. I’m a fan of Untill Death Do Us Part and I appreciate your work. You deserve to hear that, every once in a while. XD

    1. Well, the issue with blanket linking is that there’s not a lot of sites that host all our content aside from index sites. That is to say, works like Dante’s Divine Comedy quite often are not present on a given site despite hosting our other projects.

Now that said, it seems like a good idea to put a link in each series’ section of known online readers. I’ll go do that as a matter of fact.

We know about Animea and mangafox, but if you know of any other readers that host our scanlations, feel free to tell us and I’ll add them to the links.

      1. Today I send you guys an e-mail with a list of sites which mirror your releases. I decided it would be better to use your e-mail instead of the comment system becouse you might want to prevent cirtain sites from getting too much attention. furthermore could it be considered as spam.

        I hope it helps out.

  19. any luck finding UDUUP 108 raws?

    1. Not yet.

      Edit:
Maybe, will know if it’s a false alarm shortly.

      Edit 2:
Alright, we have them, working on them now.

      1. Sweet! Where did you find them?

  20. Man, I just want to say that after working on my own scan group, it totally makes me appreciate what you guys do with UDDUP a whole lot more. And that finding a translator can sometimes result in cluster fucks.

Anyway, yeah, you guys are awesome. <3

  21. Hey guys! I’m sorry but I couldn’t resist, did you find UDDUP chapter 109 raws, or not????

    1. A good question. Unfortunately, no sign of them yet. We’re probably going to try and ask the people at Raw Distro as people have said they might be able to provide the raws.

      1. That would be great! I miss this serie so much. And if I’m not mistaking, chapter 110 has been released yesterday in Young Gangan. Well I hope you’ll find chapter 109 raws! ;)

        1. *sigh* Yes, the lack of a provider has finally caught up with us. Hopefully, we can find the raws soon.

  22. You still don’t have chapter 109 or 110 raws of UDDUP ? ;__;

    1. No luck yet. This is getting kind of depressing now.

      1. Indeed… Can’t you ask your old provider? Well no, maybe not…

        This is so horrible!

        1. Afraid not. They expressed legal concern. We certainly don’t want anyone to feel pressured, least of all someone that’s already helped us out.

          1. Yeah I understand…

*Sigh* I guess we won’t have them for now.

  23. are you guys up for a join on dr.rurru

    1. Well, the translations can take a bit of time. The puns are very tricky to get to acceptable standards. Even if we don’t fix them up, it can still eat up time. Right now, if we work on a translation other than Vagabond or UDDUP, it’ll probably be DDC first. If you’re talking about the other way around (id est, us cleaning, someone else translating), our cleaners have even less free time to work on things, so that’s no good (UDDUP is tier one priority, followed by DDC).

If I remember correctly, we have a very rough chapter 7 done, so we might clean that up and release it at some point. If we get that far, we’ll look into a collaboration as with Vagabond, but until then, there’s not much to say.

  24. Hi NSN-team!
I really appreciate your work (i read Vagabond), thanks, keep it going!
An other manga i was reading was Blade of the immortal, but it was dropped by a lot of scanlation-groups. Don’t you plan to get translating this series? I think its one of the greaest manga of all time, and its a shame that it has been dropped.
It would be great if you would pick it up. (Even DarkHorse has dropped it -as i know- so no legal issues there not continuing it)

    thanks, greeeting from Hungary
    G

    1. It’s been suggested to us before, but unfortunately we’re tied up with the projects we already have — not just cleaning, but translating too. I can’t say precisely about the future, but don’t expect it. I’d be willing to wager that someone out there will pick it up eventually though, and let’s hope it’s sooner than later.

  25. i was talking about you guys to translate we take care of the rest our situation is pretty much the same cuz the only active translator in our group is working on all fronts and is quite busy , but the cleaners and ts’s are more avalaible

  26. so ?

    1. Well, like I said, we might be able to get to it sometime, but we need to do other things first. I can’t really give an ETA or anything unfortunately.

  27. i dont mind , its just that no answer was given for quite some time and i thought of asking again

  28. No new chapter of UDDUP? ;_;

I think chapter 113 was out on Friday…

    1. I meant 112

  29. hey does anyone know where to get ch. 110 raw scanlation of UDDUP?!

      1. isn’t that just the translated scans?

        1. Oh, sorry, completely misread (we get questions along those lines from time to time).

We find ours on Share, a Japanese p2p program. There are a lot of guides out there; it should be fairly easy to get it up and running with a few google searches.

          1. actually i spent over an hour trying to figure it out.. and i got no results.. maybe i’m just an idiot

would you mind emailing the file for me? please? :D

            1. Sure, it can be a bit tough to get it working just right.

  30. Hey guys, how was your Christmas holiday?

    1. Good, but no gift of 113 raws.

      1. So I’ve noticed. Ah well, I’m sure a break won’t kill ya!

  31. Hi dantejulius!!

First of all, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!thanx for all the lovely work!!I really love reading UDDUP and am planning on learning Japanese seriously so I won’t have to bother you guys any longer haha! I’m currently searching for raws from Julius and found out on this website: http://www.mangatraders.com/manga/series/395/
that you have them! Could you pls tell me where I can find them online?

    cheers,
    TomTom

    1. oh sry wrong paste…
      this is the website!!

      http://forums.mangafox.com/showthread.php?t=136042

      1. Hi, Rainn here from Xposed. We’re currently scanlating Yami no Aegis, as I believe that was what you were asking about. You can find the first chapter on MangaFox. :)

  32. ;_;

    I miss UDDUP…
Chapter 115 has come out either last week or on 31st but I think it was last week! :)
I just keep track of when the chapters are coming out in Japan so that we know how many chapters there are not translated…yet.

I hope you’ll be able to find them.

    1. Yeah, the raws are fairly far behind at this point. We don’t have much recourse aside from waiting and watching, unfortunately.

      1. I have a feeling we’re all just gonna have to wait until the volume comes out, at this point. D:

  33. Yo Translator man–long time no speak. There is a website that I hang out on–it has over a million members and at least 20,000 online or more …all the time. It’s a place that specializes in downloads—for everything. I respect you so I don’t upload UDDUP–Because you would rather people come here for downloads

But you can link to this page (the chapters) because it’s not a competeing website. I figured the UDDUP love and people can see what you have to offer. If you’re interested holla at me here, by email or pm @ Mangafox

    1. You can upload anything where ever you want. We basically just ask that you link back if possible — and it’s no big deal if the site in question doesn’t allow for links. (As a matter of fact, the only sites we explicitly don’t want our stuff on are the scam ones, ie ones makes users pay actual money for scanlations.)

The main point is upload anything anywhere you want.

  34. Hello!
A facebook group was made concerning UDDUP. Is it alright that your group and your website is mentioned on the group page? We know your group is already well know amongst the UDDUP fans, but this is just to make sure there’s no trouble. If you would like to see what this message is referencing to, please visit the group page:

    http://www.facebook.com/pages/Until-Death-Do-Us-Part-Manga/159327157443646

    1. Not a problem, we don’t mind. Cool page!

  35. Hi guys, just posting because I’ve watched the news on TV and I thought about the situation in Japan. Do you think all the authors are okay?

    1. Well, I would assume they’re fine — I doubt they live out in the hardest hit areas. That said, we like to wish luck to all those less fortunate in the disaster.

  36. Hello there~
If I want to use your releases on our manga site, where/to whom should I ask permission? And is it possible if I ask for the full chapters of the said manga?
    Thanks in advance.

    1. http://nihilsinenefas.wordpress.com/linking-archive-sites-release-sites-et-cetera/
Basically, go ahead and post it wherever, just link back to us if you’re able to. We don’t care much so long as you’re not charging for the content, removing credits pages or anything along those lines.

You should be able to find downloads to all our releases via their release pages which are linked to from our main page:

  37. -snerk-

    http://mitsuomitakayanagi.deviantart.com/art/UDDUP-109-Conversation-COMIC-204523417

I thought you guys would kick out of this. Also, behold my mad art skillz.

    1. Looks about on par with my drawing skill. Generally, I take images from other places, and flex my mad copy-paste skillz (see: rage comics + UDDUP panels).

      1. That’s what I thought about doing, but my copy paste skills likewise aren’t that great. xD It’s easier for me to doodle.

  38. Hi. Thx for doing UDDUP :D I love it. I’m currently rereading it for like the third time and I noticed that the map shown in ch 102 page 5 when they were talking about Jesus’s 8 deaths… is it just me or does he spend a lot of time dying while wisiting Greenland?

    1. He must be stopping all the criminal syndicates from clubbing baby seals.
Along the same lines, in the previous chapter the map showing where Mamoru was training in Arizona is actually of San Antonio.

      1. Must be some dangerous seals or criminals then :P

Had no idea about the mamoru map… well not that that is so suprising since my geographic knowledge of the US is limited to LA, Washington, Boston and Miami… (since I been there with my family)

        1. He’s probably getting eaten by polar bears.

  39. Hey guys, just thought you’d get a kick out something I worked on. I call it “Impassive Tate”.

    http://i55.tinypic.com/2cymkao.png

    1. LOL
Hey now, he has at least 2 facial expressions. Well… maybe 1.5?

      1. MAYBE two. In addition to that, I also have “Violence Jesus”, but I can’t find those right now because I lost the files.

  40. Just have to say, you guys are amazing! Like many before, I also look forward to your credit page. They always make my day. And the chapters you guys are responsible for are always the best in quality. Thanks for being a wonderful group and doing phenomenal work. You are very much appreciated!

    1. Thanks, always good to get a nice comment.

  41. Can you send me a copies of UDDUP (from c.101-c.117)’s raw, please?

    1. Sorry, but we usually don’t keep archives of raws — needless to say any sort of online repository. There are sites and services set up to house raws, but I don’t have a goto-site to point you to really.

  42. Hey guys, a friend said they MIGHT have a store that can order Young Gangan, the problem is she doesn’t know what issues she’d need. I was hoping you guys would know?

    1. At the end of 117, it tells us that 118 is in issue number 6. 122 was in issue 10 –meaning there weren’t any skipped issue– so we should be looking for issues number 6 to 9 (2011 obviously).

  43. I think chapters 122 ans 123 are from YG 10 and 11.

So I think she needs to order from YG 6.
    Can someone confirm this?

  44. Hey!
First of all I really appreciate your work and hope you will keep on going as long s possible! And a wanted to ask if you guys know any other mangas by DoubleS since I couldn’t find any so far, I really love his style.

    1. http://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=2150
His only other work appears to be a series call XS. As I remember, the art isn’t as amazing as his current work, but still pretty decent. I didn’t really read it, so I can’t speak to the narrative strength.

  45. Can you tell me when next UDDUP will be out?

    1. Unfortunately, we’re still missing a number of chapters, so there’s not much we can do. There’s no real indication when we might get those chapter either. We might start up a new poll to see how people are feeling about the gap now.

  46. Hello I wanted to say you do a wonderful job with UDDUP. :) And also wanted to join with the question above, but not when the UDDUP will be out but did you manage to get the raws?

  47. To be clear, the missing chapters are 118, 119, 120 and 121. Did you manage to get any of this and do you have the ones that showed after? I don’t want to sound rude or anything I just want to know how things are. And one more thing if you decide to skip the gap and do the chapters you have, do you intent to return to the missing one when the hole volume will be relased? Hope you don’t mind asking.

    1. Don’t worry, we have this page just for this sort of question. We do have chapters 122 to 126. We do NOT have 118, 119, 120 or 121. If we do skip the missing chapters — which is looking more and more likely — we fully intend to complete the skipped chapters as soon as we get the raws.

  48. Does UDDUP still not done yet?

  49. Hi Guys, Thanks so much for your UDDUP releases. I love the manga and love the great work your team (and any contributors) put in towards releasing them.
Now onto my question – I wanted to ask whether you guys would be willing to add a new manga project into your list of releasing mangas.

The manga I’m referring to is Nokizaru:

    http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=30211

I read the chapter 1 and instantly got hooked. But unfortunately, the group that released the chapter 1 has currently been inactive for a very long time.
By good luck, I have raws for volume 1 and volume 2, so I can provide them if you guys are willing to work on them.

And even if you guys can’t work on it because there are too many mangas (or other things) to work on, there’s no hard feelings at all from my end.

    1. Yeah, we’re not really looking to take up new projects at the moment. Thanks for the suggestion though.

  50. I wonder, is there a certain schedule about when UDDUP out?
I just want to know about it, so i could read it as fast as i could.
    Its great after all.
    thanks

    1. It’s not exact, but we’re aiming for something around 5 days between each.

  51. Excuse me; our translator was wondering about your use of the term “Praetorian” for Tate; can you explain a bit?

    1. Dammit, wrong name.

      1. As I think I said before, we got a bit creative with this one. The Japanese is 護り屋. It doesn’t have a clear direct translation, so we improvised a bit. I’ve seen it read “イージス” or Aegis, but only once and UDDUP. I’m not convinced that it’s supposed to be interpreted directly as Aegis though. Readings can be loose sometimes. For example, I’ve seen the reading for 奴 (a general third pronoun) be the exact name of the character. Obvious every 奴 isn’t meant to be read as that characters name, it was just providing some extra clarity. Anyways, I think Praetorian is pretty cool either way.

  52. Hello you said you gonna slow down a bit if 130 don’t show, does it include the next chapter 123? The ending of 122 made me want to read the next chapter right away so I curious.

    1. No, that’ll be too soon. It’ll be some time after 123 that we slow down if we do slow down.

  53. Hi guys, thanks for all the chapters you released! :)
I’m not sure so I’ll just ask you. You don’t have 130 or 131, is that what I understood?? But I thought that you had a site where you found all the Young Gangan ??? Is that right or did I misunderstand?
Anyway thanks for all your hard work!

    1. By saying we had all the Young Gangan, we meant all that had been released at that point in time. Subsequently, more chapters showed up; the series is ongoing after all. We do not have 130 on yet.

  54. Just wondering, but is the tankoubon version of the Bride special chapter from volume 5 of UDDUP different in any significant way from the magazine version you released originally?

    1. It’s from volume 15, and there didn’t seem to be any major changes to the chapter.

  55. Oops, thanks, I was typing in a hurry and omitted the 1.

  56. Hello i wanted to ask how the stuff with 130 chapter are going? Did it showed somewhere?

    1. No luck yet. We’re going to release 124 fairly soon. After that, we’re going to slow it down a bit — no more than the normal 2 week release schedule though.

  57. Did you guys hear that UDDUP is gonna be published in the US next year?

    1. No, I hadn’t. Hope it’s well done. Also, that the publisher doesn’t mind scanlations.

      1. Yen Press is gonna be the publisher. Aren’t they one of the big bad’s behind the coalition? I’m happy that it’s gonna be published, but I hope you guys don’t get into trouble or something.

        1. Yeah, let’s hope not. I doubt we’d get in trouble unless we openly defied a C&D order which, let me be clear here, we will not. I might see about still releasing translations or something depending on the exact legality of that after review. Anyways, we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it, if at all.

  58. Shouldn’t 125 be out? it’s already been two weeks since last chapter was released, no? D:
Too bad raws for this manga arent as fast as others like bleach, etc… :/

    1. Yeah, it should be. Unfortunately though, I found myself once again without internet for a little over a week — work related. Apparently I was required (as the translator) to clear up certain parts of the script. Anyways, I’m hoping we can release the chapter very soon. I am also thinking we’ll release the following chapter sooner than the two weeks we were talking about before. I apologize for the delays.

      1. You don’t have to, you guys do a great job bringing us such a great mangá that we wouldn’t find any other way… We all know you guys don’t get paid to scan for everyone, it’s not your job, but, we all like to read it too, lol…
        But great :D
I’ll keep looking for the release :D

  59. Hey there guys, thanks for your hard work. Just wanted to give you a link where the author of the blog talks about 130, 131, 132 and it’s in japanese so maybe you guys can figure something out or not. ;) Apparently there is also a special chapter about the Wall. Here you go! :)

    http://clarte7.exblog.jp/tags/%E6%AD%BB%E3%81%8C%E3%81%B5%E3%81%9F/

    1. Yeah, they had some info during the last raw gap, but unfortunately they don’t scan any full raws.

  60. First off all, I would like to thank all NSN staff for all scanlation releases you have given so far, I really enjoyed them. Especially UDDUP

I was just wondering if NSN scanlation group would pick up Bastard!!! manga series by Kazushi Hagiwara. Art and plot is of high quality and it is a series worthy of scanlating.

    1. I honestly wouldn’t expect that we’d end up taking it as a project, but I check the series out. Generally, everyone here would have to like it a whole lot, needless to say have read it.

  61. Hey guys is it me or is your work not anymore on Mangafox. It says that the serie is unavailable?!?!

  62. Sup bros,
I’ve been wondering, it’s been a long time since last release, tho i know you probabbly still don’t have any news from 130
but do u intend on delaying all the releases to 129 till you get some info?

    1. No news on 130 yet. The gap sort of take the imperative out of releasing things quickly, so we end up delaying things more than we should. With Christmas bussiness to attend to, we’ve been especially bad about things.

The translation is more or less done, but we still need to clean the raws. The editors tend to be the more busy than me (the translator), not to mention that it’s more intensive work to do. (To be clear, having to administrate others in cleaning and TSing is enough of a hassle that it wouldn’t help out much, along with the fact that we use TSing as an important proofing phase.) They are working on it now though.

Sorry for the delays, we really have been pretty bad about this all.

  63. lol, I had completely forgotten about the christmas month, it sucks, nothing works properly =P
But no worries, thanks for the info and keep the good job up guys :D

  64. Since the manga has now been licensed and MangaFox has taken down it’s copy of the manga (even though we won’t be getting the manga until May apparently) would this mean that you will be stopping your most excellent work ?

    1. No. We won’t stop translating because of licensing unless the publisher are explicit that they want us to stop, e.g. a C&D.

  65. Sorry to ask that but I wanted to know, are you guys okay? It’s been a while since the latest release and it’s not like you at all, guys.

Hope you’re all okay and that we will have news from you soon!

    1. Yeah, we’re ok. We are having issues completing our scanlations. We are working on it though. We’ll have more to say come release.

  66. Guys I don’t know if you’re aware that vol 16 of UDDUP is getting out tomorrow and that it will probably have until chapter 130, so look out for 130 raws. ;) And who knows maybe there will be other chapters you’re missing! :D

  67. I was wondering if you guys could pick up a project call Dokuro?

  68. Any ETA on the next chapter? I’ve been checking this site several times every day since November. Recently I even had a dream that you guys posted both 127 AND 128 at the same time, so I think I’m getting desperate… Chapter 126 left off at a really cruel cliffhanger. o_o; Please tell us!

    1. Sorry, we feel off the side of the earth there for a while. We were going to trying and wait for the editors to get more time together, but it’s just not happening. That being the case, we’re going to release just translation for the foreseeable future. Expect 127 trasnlations to be released by the start of next week at the very latest.

  69. I’m totally agreeing with Fennec.. is UDDUP coming anytime soon? i love your translations! cant wait to read it!

    1. Answered above. More details will be coming around about the specifics.

  70. Inoue said he is going to continue Vagabond from February, are you going to pick it up again? :)

    1. around March*

  71. So i’m intrested in helping out as really anything to help with the staff, aka i would like to join. I do not know how to translate, how ever i am very good with image minipulation, so i could probable typeset, or clean. i’m willing to work on any project, though am extremely intrested in Till death do us part. please let me know if i can help out and how. i spend a lot of time home sick, so i often have free time in excess.

    1. Expanding the group costed administration time on our end. It seems trivial, but it adds up in various way. That’s why we defer to working with another group to get a job done when we aren’t doing it ourselves.

If you want to do 127 completely by yourself when we release the translation, feel free (disclaimer: if another group doesn’t want the translations to be release as part of a collaboration, they might not get released). There is no actual barrier to entry for scanlation other than producing and very minor content delivery (see: mediafire and a forum post anywhere really). Another option would be trying to work with another group that works on UDDUP.

Those are some options since we’re not going to be expanding our group. Thanks for the offer though.

      1. Well thanks for the reply, I really just like your group and was looking to help on anything lol. regardless thx, and if you change your mind my doors always open

  72. I have one question. You doing translation only now with not as good as the whole chapter together is still awesome. Thank you for that but not all are able to fins raw chapters me for example, could you tell me where I would be able to find them?

    1. Yeah, we don’t want to get into distribution of raws ourselves if we can help. Look into Jcafe. Other than that, the Japanese peer to peer networks themselves, e.g. Share, Perfect Dark.

  73. Um…. Hate to break it… UDDUP Chapter 127 is not downloadable. the link given gives a “Opps, Something went wrong with your download” error when I try to download it.
    Anyway….

    1. Works for me. You probably were just dealing with a temporary server issue. We were using a second host to mitigate such issues, specifically megaupload, and, well, that’s not an option anymore. We’ll have to look into other hosting options.

      1. Fair enough. May just be my network then. Will try from another.

  74. Hey guys. Vagabond is finally off hiatus. Chapter 301 is on Inoue’s site:

    http://www.itplanning.co.jp/vaga.html

Ho-Lee Sheeit. Guys, I’d highly appreciate it if you could find the scans for this badboy. If I knew what channels to browse, I’d do it myself. Alas, I am not so resourceful.

    1. Looks like Mangastream has taken over. They’ll be much better for the series. I really am glad such a good group is scanning it. Good luck to them, we’ll be bowing out on this one.

  75. I appreciate your wp format, where did you get a hold of it?
